DEM Wear ComparisonOnyx Projects has developed cutting edge Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) techniques to tackle a variety of issues encountered with problematic transfer chutes including:

  • excessive liner wear;
  • belt tracking/wear;
  • chute blockage; and
  • spillage.

Our team of in-house materials handling specialists has collaborated with the developers of ROCKY (market leading DEM software) to develop our modelling processes to an industry leading standard, providing a world class service to key clients including:

  • Rio Tinto;
  • Roy Hill; and
  • FMG

Following site audits and in close collaboration with key site stakeholders, DEM techniques are used to benchmark each specific issue, determine root causes and develop practical solutions based upon our experience of addressing similar issues.

Our experience covers the entire process plant transfer systems from ROM bin through to rail loading and ship loading. We have demonstrably reduced downtime, improved reliability and increased capacity on problematic transfer chutes with products ranging from primary crushed ore through to highly cohesive and adhesive fines and tails materials.

Onyx Projects has also gained significant experience in the selection of appropriate wear liners for use in specific applications based on assessing the relative advantages and limitations of each type.
