Onyx Projects is proud to announce its appointment by Tellus Holdings Ltd (“Tellus”) to manage the Bankable Feasibility Study (FEL 3) for its Sandy Ridge Project.
This appointment follows our previous role in assisting Tellus with the Pre-Feasibility Study (FEL 2 and FEL 2.5) phase of this project.
Tellus is an infrastructure development company in the business of creating economic, social and environmental value from waste, salt and clay resources. The proposed Sandy Ridge Project is a dual revenue model that involves mining the commodity kaolin and backfilling the voids left from mining with the long term storage of waste. Tellus plans to store like-with-like materials, so as to create opportunities for the future long-term, storage, treatment and recovery of valuable materials or the permanent isolation of waste. Tellus supports releasing valuable materials back into the circular economy. Tellus’ business model mirrors world’s best practice solutions operating in the UK, Europe and North America.

During the last financial year we have successfully completed over 250 projects for clients including Rio Tinto, BHPB, Roy Hill, FMG, Iron Bridge, Cliffs Resources, Citic Pacific, and a number of other resource operators and main contractors.
In line with mining sector activity our business has changed from executing a small number of larger projects to one characterised by a large number of smaller sustaining capital projects. The majority of these projects are targeted at reliability improvement, defect elimination and throughput enhancement. We expect that sustaining projects will increasingly focus on unlocking latent capacity in existing assets as market conditions slowly improve.
Our flexible structure has enabled us to adapt positively to market conditions and our strong value proposition has led to our recent appointment to the BHP Billiton Iron Ore and Roy Hill engineering panels. These new clients when coupled with strong relationships with established clients are vital in the sector’s current economic environment.

Onyx Projects relocated to a brand new office on 7th December. Our newly fitted out, modern and open plan office is located on Level 9, Parmelia House, 191 St Georges Terrace, Perth which was a short move from our previous location on Level 1 of the same building.
We are pleased to announce that following an extensive tendering and selection process, Onyx Projects has been appointed to BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Miscellaneous Engineering Services panel which will provide opportunities to perform professional services for all BHP Billiton Iron Ore sites in Western Australia.
Building on its solid reputation in the Western Australian resources and infrastructure sectors, project management and engineering company Onyx Projects has been enlisted by Fortescue Metals Group Limited (Fortescue) to provide services for the Iron Bridge magnetite project in the Pilbara.
Fortescue is the operator for the Iron Bridge joint venture. Iron Bridge’s North Star project, incorporating ore bodies situated about 100kms south of Port Hedland, is being developed in conjunction with Taiwan’s Formosa Group and China’s Baosteel Group.
Stage 1 of the project, currently in the construction phase, will process feed to produce high grade, magnetite concentrate. The facilities also include a pilot plant with the capacity to produce magnetite concentrate.
The project is being executed as an integrated team with key consultants working directly with the Fortescue Iron Bridge project team.
Within this structure, Onyx Projects is providing detailed engineering, design and site support services for the Stage 1 process plant including civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls.
The North Star Project is an exciting development, with a number of technologies being used within the process plant to produce concentrate more efficiently than traditional magnetite flow sheets.

In addition to the ongoing Stage 1 work, Onyx Projects has also been assisting the Iron Bridge team to study options and develop value improvement strategies for the planned Stage 2 process plant and associated infrastructure.

Our certification covers all phases of the project delivery lifecycle including scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility, procurement and contract management, construction management and commissioning.
This accreditation reinforces our commitment to provide our clients with a high quality, continuously improving service.
Following on from the design work carried out on Stage 1 of the North Star Magnetite Project, Iron Bridge have engaged Onyx Projects to move onto the Value Improvement Study phase for Stage 2. This involves looking at a number of options that remain open from the previous study phase carried out with a view to being able to propose a single Go Forward option into the subsequent DFS. The options to be reviewed encompass the process plant, water supply from the Canning Basin, delivery of product to the port and non-process infrastructure. The study will also include a detailed metallurgical test plan and test work to support the geomet model and construction of a small pilot plant to assist with carrying out the required test work.
The study will deliver an overall 3 dimensional model of the Go Forward process plant option that will be prepared using Smartplant.
