Published on: 11th February, 2020 Onyx Projects continues its support for BHP’s availability improvement program at Port Hedland

Onyx Projects is delighted to continue its support to BHP Iron Ore’s Asset Projects team to deliver a program of works to increase the availability of its Port Hedland iron ore circuits. The project combines a number of initiatives to reduce operational downtime and planned shutdown durations. This challenging brownfields work takes advantage of our specialist Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) capability to improve transfer chute wear life and minimise belt tracking problems. It also includes the exciting initiative from BHP’s Port Hedland Engineering team to install automated wash systems within transfer chutes to reduce ore build up. Once operational at Port Hedland, this solution is likely to be applied across other BHP iron ore facilities.

Having successfully completed the Definition Phase Study for the project in 2019, Onyx was subsequently awarded the detailed design, with packages being issued progressively throughout 2020 to meet planned construction windows at the port. We are pleased to be working closely with BHP to achieve the successful delivery of this program.
